Distribution of Food and Hygiene Packags with the help of Caritas Slovakia
Al-Hassaka Province Syria:
In cooperation with Caritas Slovakia, Syriac Cross distributed food parcels and hygiene kits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and needy families in the province of Al-Hassaka in north-eastern Syria from May to June 2017.
The distribution of aid packages took into account the districts with the highest influx of Internally Displaced Persons. Syriac Cross carried out the implementation of this project without distinction between religion or ethnicity. However, a special focus was on supporting women and children, older people and people with disabilities, thus ensuring cultural and gender-specific provision at all levels.
The siege of the neighbouring provinces by ISIS and the blockade of the borders of the neighbouring countries Turkey and Iraq-Kurdistan prove(d) to be one of the biggest problems for the people in the province of Al-Hassaka. As a result, the cost of living in the province of Al-Hassaka is high. In addition, there is a lack of job opportunities, which makes survival difficult for both internally displaced people and local families.
With the help of Caritas Slovakia (www.caritas.org) Syriac Cross was and is able to offer continuing support to more than 4,000 people. A total of 478 food parcels and 479 hygiene kits were distributed.
